The undiscerning mind is like the roots of a tree. It absorbs all that it touches, even that which would kill it.

Friends,
Happy almost Valentine’s Day. Here are five things I’ve been doing/exploring/thinking about this week:
Despite becoming a first-time father at 46, I often worry about it being ‘too late’ to do some things in life. Yet time and time again, I see people defying that belief and doing things anyway. Roget published his thesaurus at 73. Bukowski published his first novel at 49. Laura Ingalls Wilder started writing in her 60s. There are enough stories like this to fill a book.
If you’ve followed me for a bit, you know I’ve been on a fitness and weight loss journey for a few years, with a lot of success and challenges. The most important thing I’ve learned? That ‘science’ and common wisdom about health and nutrition is often either corporate misinformation, or just plain wrong. Take walking, for example.
I’ve written before about writing by hand. I’m not a notebook snob but I particularly like Leuchtturm notebooks, and just discovered their interviews with creators who mainly write/draw by hand.
I’ve read a lot of ‘gee whiz’ reactions to Apple’s $3,500+ VR headset, the Vision Pro. But isn’t it just another seductive distraction?
A powerfully personal story of how medical care often fails us when it comes to diagnoses, and how it might change.
It is never too late to be what you might have been.
