One thing that fatherhood has taught me better than any other part of life? The power of living in the moment.
I want to spend time with my daughter, for all the usual reasons: I love her, I want to be a good father, I want to be a living example for her and guide her and show her things.
Meanwhile--life is always happening, isn't it?
But moments present themselves. It's almost *always* moments--not neatly scheduled 'father-daughter time', or a carefully planned activity (that will likely not go as planned anyway).
So: you seize the moments. She shows me a book and tells me what it's about. A moment. She comes to sit on my lap for a hug. A moment. She complains about a schoolmate. A moment.
To be honest, most of the moments are just the opportunity to listen. To acknowledge her feelings and what she's saying. To just...be present.
Seize the moments. One day, there won't be any more.
